UNESCO Type: Awards Registration deadline: May 31, 1999 Submission deadline: July 30, 1999 Open to: All Entry fee: None Awards: 2 - $5,000 grants Jury: Unknown The UNESCO Web prize shall be awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements by artists, designers and programmers in creating websites in the fields of competence of the organization. UNESCO invites the creation of websites in the following categories: Category I: Free Theme The contents of the websites should be related to international co-operation in education, science, culture, and communication, possibly to UNESCO's priority groups (women, young people and the least developed countries), multi-lingualism and multi-culturalism. Category II: Public domain UNESCO strongly promotes access to and free flow of information. The ultimate goal of the Information Society is empowerment of all citizens through access to and use of knowledge. One of the main goals of UNESCO is the re-definition of "universal access" to information. Websites submitted in this category may offer access to texts, music or art, that are not restricted by copyright, or may take on the intellectual and social issues and benefits of accessibility to information in the public domain.
