What is Vaastu?
Vaastu is the art of placement.
How & where
did it originate?
According to mythology, Vishwakarma the celestial architect was abducted
by Ravana to build Lanka as per Vaastu. Shri Krishna engaged the services
of Vishwakarma to build Dwarka. Pandavas at the behest of Shri Krishna
prayed to Vishwakarma to build Indra Prastha. Hence, it follows that
Vaastu is as old as Vedic ages.
For whom is Vaastu
meant?
Vaastu is meant for the entire humanity irrespective of caste, creed,
race, nationality, colour, and religion.
Is Vaastu meant
for Hindus only?
Vaastu is meant for Hindus and Non Hindus alike.
Is Vaastu easy
to follow or complicated?
Vaastu is a definite science based on well-established principles. It
therefore follows that once the basic principles are well understood
Vaastu is as easy as any other subject of human knowledge. Even if it
is complicated the advantages make it worth the complication if at all
there are any.
Is Vaastu is applicable
only in India?
Vaastu is not only applicable in India but all over the world.
Can Vaastu apply
to apartments?
At first sight although it appears to apply to apartments, there is
a school of thought, which insists that each dwelling should be separated
from its neighborhood by a reasonable distance to ensure good flow of
air for ventilation and plenty of light from all sides. Vaastu therefore
appears to frown upon the very concept of apartments since they almost
always share common walls.
Does Vaastu have
relation with health?
The prime requirements of man are the driving factors for Vaastu. Hence
health most obviously is one of its prime concerns.
Is Vaastu expensive?
Vaastu as such is meant for the ultimate benefit and thus the question
of being expensive does not arise.
Does Vaastu improve
relationship?
Invariably yes. Nearly 75% of the Vaastu clients insist this prime requirement
in particular. Be it marital or any other filial bondage Vaastu undoubtedly
promotes the ties.
Vaastu & Wealth:
Wealth is one of the most sought after reasons for Vaastu.
Vaastu and family:
N (Mother)
NW (Friends) NE (Children)
W E (Father)
SW (Owner and his son)
SE (Marital Relations)
S (Eldest son)
Vaastu & raveling:
Own house- Sleep with head towards the South
Relation - Sleep with head towards the East
Traveling - Sleep with head towards the West
Vaastu and fortune:
Vaastu represents the exercise of individuals choice of free will to
prosper in the material and spiritual field. After all you cannot preach
philosophy to a hungry man!
Vaastu and choice
of soil:
- The four main
types are: White soil: Lustrous, wheatish white soil, Smelling of
freshly cooked rice or ghee suited for people of intellectual pursuits
Brahmins. Red Soil: Shining, reddish soil smelling of blood
iron, suited for the police, army, security service men - Kshatriyas
Yellow Soil: Shining bright yellow tinted soil smelling like rice
or honey. Suited for people engaged in trading, business, manufacture
etc. Black Soil: Black, salty to taste, or smelling like alcohol may
be fit for labour workers, skilled and semiskilled.
- An ideal plot:
A flat land with plants yielding fruits, flowers, a pleasant smell
and look without rocks, thorns, serpents and anthills etc. is suited
for construction.
Forbidden plots: An uneven site with poisonous insects, animals, rocky
boulders, thorny bushes, foul smell, facing:
Liquor Shop
Non-veg butchers shop
Broken dilapidated wall
Last part of a wall
Burial ground
Places where crimes such as murder committed ..
Drainage
Tree, lamp, telephone post
Open field
Forest
Tamarind tree
Old dead trees
Gymnasiums
Temples
Laundries
Oil selling shops
Places struck by lightening
Potter
Ironsmiths furnace
Site with bones, hairs, charcoal tile pieces
Site without underground veins of water
Sites with
- East elevated
and West declined.
- South east and
North west Inclined or slanting.
- North elevated
and South declined.
- North east elevated
and South west declining.
Vaastu
and Seasons:
The best seasons for construction is during:
15th February to 15th March after new moon in
this period 15th July to 15th August
after new moon in this period
15th April to 15th May after new moon in this
period
Vaastu and Shape of buildings:
Always rectangle or square Unit:
- Hand length
of the owner
- Palm length
of the owner
- There are totally
eleven types of sophisticated calculations, which a dwelling has to
satisfy.
Positive
Vibrations:- if L is length B is breadth L* B =A where A is Area
Formula = P= A*B/12 where P is the remainder representing the positive
vibrations
Negative Vibrations:- if L is length b is breadth L* B =A where is Area
Formula = N= A*3/8 where N is the remainder representing the vibrations
Note: - Positive vibrations should always be greater than negative vibration
P>N
Ratio
of length and breadth: - Play a very important role. Totally there are
eight ratios.
They are,
- Dhwaja Aya (Flag
ratio) L*B = A where A is the area
Formula A* 9 /8 the remainder should be 1 which is flag ratio. A dwelling
with this ratio has been recommended in our Vaastu texts.
- Dhoomra Aya (Smoke
ratio) L*B = A where A is the area
Formula A*9/8 the remainder should be 2 which is smoke ratio. A dwelling
with this ratio has not be recommended in our Vaastu texts.
- Simha Aya (Lion
Ratio) L*B = A where A is the area Formula A*9/8 the remainder should
be 3 which is Lion ratio. A dwelling with this ratio has been recommended
in our Vaastu texts. But there is school of thought according to which
the house opposite to a Lion ratio will be destroyed. However all
agree that all temples should be build only in Lion ratios
- Shwana Aya (Dog
Ratio) L*B = A where A is the area Formula A*9/8 the remainder should
be 4 which is Dog ratio. A dwelling with this ratio has not been recommended
in our Vaastu texts.
Vrishabha Aya (
Bull Ratio) L*B = A where A is the area.
Formula
A*9/8 the remainder should be 5 which is Bull ratio. A dwelling with
this ratio has been recommended in our Vaastu texts.
Khara Aya ( Devil
Ratio) L*B = A where A is the area.
Formula
A*9/8 the remainder should be 6 which is Devil ratio. A dwelling with
this ratio has not been recommended in our Vaastu texts.
Gaja Aya ( Elephant
Ratio ) L*B = A where A is the area.
Formula
A*9/8 the remainder should be 7 which is Elephant ratio. A dwelling
with this ratio has been recommended in our Vaastu texts.
Kaka Aya ( Crow
Ratio) L*B = A where A is the area.
Formula
A*9/8 the remainder should be 8 which is Crow ratio. A dwelling with
this ratio has not been recommended in our Vaastu texts.
Note:
it will be observed that:
- All odd numbers
produce results good for construction of a house.
- All even numbers
yield bad results although there is a school of thought that Smoke
ratio is good forkitchen.
- Dog ratio is
good for tool rooms, and armoury where weapons are stored.
- Devil ratio
is good for kennel and stables etc.
- Crow ratio is
good for toilets This school of thought also recommends.
flag ratio
for bathroom
Lion ratio for bed room
Bull ratio for dining room
Elephant ratio for treasury, chase and valuables
All rectangles with odd lengths and odd breadths are good
- All squares with
odd sides result in flag ratio, which is very good.
- Where as all
other ratios have there own sophisticated rules and formulas for doors
windows ventilators and direction, the flag ratio, has however been
exempted for these restrictions. However doors, windows and ventilators
in all cases should be not only even but also a maximum of eight or
its multiples.
- A house with
lion ratio can face a flag ratio.A house of flag ratio can face a
house of bull ratio or be behind a house of bull
ratio. If elephant ratio faces lion ratio it is good for the lion
while bad ratio for the elephant ratio. Elephant ratio however can
be at the right of a lion ratio which is good for both. Bull ratio
should never be behind an elephant ratio. Bull and lion should never
face each other. Flag ratio should never be at the left of lion ratio,
which will result in the death of some one in the house of lion ratio.
Lunar divisions( thithi) Moon's orbit around earth is divided
into 30 equal divisions of 12 degrees each; each division is known
as a thithi ( T). If area is A Formula A*8/30 = T (Good = 2, 3, 5,
7, 10,12, 13, Bad = 1, 4, 6, 8,9, 11. 14, 15, and 0) Weekly division
if area is A and W is weekly division the formula is as follows W=
A*9/7 If the remainder is
- Sunday = Fear
of fire
- Monday = Much
property
- Tuesday = Loss
due to burning
- Wednesday = Wealth
and Good food
- Thursday = Popularity
- Friday = Property
progeny ( children)
- Saturday = Bad
Stars if A is the
area and S is star
Formula
S = A*8/27 If remainder is 4,5,8,12,13,14,15,17,21,22,23,24,26,27, results
are good. Other remainders indicate bad results.
Yoga. If Y represents
yoga and A area
Formula
Y= A* 4/12 If remainder is 1, 6, 9,10,13,15,17,19, and 27 the results
are bad. Other remainders are good
Karana. If K is
Karana and A is the area
Formula
K = A* 5/11 If remainder 1,2,3,4 and 5 the results are good. Other remainders
are bad.
Amsha. If A is Amsha
and a is area
Formula
A= a*6/9 If remainder is 1 result is loss 2 result is prosperity 3 result
is Wealth 4 Sorrow 5 Fear of death 6 Fear of theft 7 progeny prospers
8 Animals farewell ( Cows buffaloes) 9 Happiness
Formula
If A is area A*9 / 120 = is the Life of the building Note:-
Life
span should always be more than 60
It
therefore follows that the minimum dwelling should be at least 30 feet
/ 30 feet
Dikpalaka If D represents
Dikpalaka and A is the Ayushya
Formula
AY/8= D. If the remainder is
- Indra
which offers all round fortune
- Agni
Danger of fire
- Yama
Misfortune
- Nairuthi
Fear of Enemies
- Vayu
Loss of position
- Kubera
Good food
- Ishanya
Excellent results
-
Apart
from above two more important calculations are A) If G is =
Guna and D Dikpalaka as per item number 11 Formula G= D/3*8 ( if the
remainder is 1 it is very good (Satvik) 2 Medium (Rajasic) 3 Bad (Tamsic)
B ) Status if S is status and AY is Ayushya ( That is the less span
of building) Formula S= AY/4= if the remainder is 1 Childhood which
is very good 2 Teenage good 3 Youth Moderate 0 Old age Bad
Vaastu and Soil
testing
Before construction the soil has to be tested for its worthiness and
only after the positive results are obtained the construction can be
started accordingly.
Soil
test no 1
Dig a pit of 1/1/1 foot ( 1 cubic foot ) at the center of the plot where
the two diagonals of the rectangle meet, fill the same with water to
its full at sun set and close it with stone slab. Remove the stone slab
the next day at sunrise and observe
- If
there is no water left and it is observed that the pit is dried and
cracked the plot is unworthy for construction of any building.
- If
water is retained the plot is ideal for construction ( the more water
retained the better).
-
Soil
test no 2
As above dig pit a of one cubic foot and fill the same pit with the
soil so removed.
-
If
some soil is left over it shows that the plot is very good for construction
-
if no soil is left over but the pit is full the plot is just moderate
for construction.
-
If the pit is still not full filled it shows that the plot is totally
unworthy of any construction. s
Soil
test no 3
Dig a pit of one cubic foot on the lines explained above and
fill up with
